I try my best to capture something original for the blog each day, but it seems like all I catch these guys doing lately is playing. So I hope no one minds another play video…

Getting silly
In a shocking turn of events, Foxie was a goofball this morning.
(I think we have the best job in the world.)
Lettuce bonanza
Jackie threw whole heads of lettuce on top of the enclosure tonight as part of dinner. If you know Negra, you probably know two things: first, she is not exactly the ‘athletic’ type. Second, she LOVES lettuce. So, we were very impressed when we saw her climb up and dangle from the tippy-top of the enclosure to get her head of lettuce! In the second part of this video you’ll see Missy doing the same thing, but with a bigger payoff. At the end it looks like she doesn’t quite know how to drop down to the platform without dropping her haul!
Laughter
The chimps were in such playful moods yesterday! I could hear laughter coming from the playroom, so I grabbed the camera and caught Foxie and Jamie in a 10-minute long game of “steal the troll”. Thankfully, Foxie won in the end and the troll was returned to its rightful owner.
What a difference a day makes…when we came in this morning, the group had clearly been fighting and they had that look that says We can’t wait to take our frustration out on you, J.B., when you serve us breakfast!. Needless to say, I got drenched. But that’s what I’m here for!

“Let Freedom Swing”
Let Freedom Swing can be yours! Artist Tamela Burgess created a beautiful hand-crafted necklace celebrating the Cle Elum Seven’s release to sanctuary. We want to make this one-of-a-kind, truly amazing auction donation available to all chimpanzee supporters, not just those who can attend the Celebrate the Seven auction. So, it will be given to the first person who lets me know that they will pay the guaranteed bid price of $1270.
Tamela spent a great deal of time working on this piece and used the finest materials. Here is her description, “The pendant is made of fine silver and is 3″x2.” The painted clay inclusion depicts a young juvenile chimpanzee swinging in the trees of his or her African homeland. I also used Kazuri ceramic beads and Krobo recycled glass beads from Africa. CSNW means so much to me and I’ve been working really hard to create something special for the auction.” The necklace is approximately 18in long.
Tamela even included a display box and – get this! – a book of photographs illustrating and describing the process of making the necklace. We were all blown away. It is a beautiful piece by a beautiful person. See the photos below and fall in love like we did. Email me right away when you decide you can’t live without it: [email protected]
It will be available up until the auction date, Oct. 2nd or until it goes to the lucky person who makes the guaranteed bid.
