I’ve been looking through photos from the previous year this past week, choosing the best of the best for the 2023 calendar. I know, I know, it’s a pretty nice assignment. Everyone who works here takes some really amazing photos!
The photos I took today are most definitely not calendar-worthy. That’s one of the nice things about the blog, though. We don’t have to have technically gorgeous photos or poetic prose every day to let you all in on the goings on of the sanctuary.
With that in mind, please enjoy these terrible photos of the day.
First up, 23-year-old office cat LouLou catching the morning sun:
Meredith literally going against the herd, as she often does:
Jamie post-breakfast:
Rayne was also in an accessorizing mood, but used a scarf for just a bit of cover while taking an afternoon nap:
Gordo doing his Gordo box-sitting thing:
Willy B eating a purple potato for lunch:
The BAF evaporative cooler is here!
It actually caused quite a stir when it was wheeled into the chimp area yesterday. For some reason, Gordo and Dora in particular were quite concerned about the dark monolith and alarm called loud and long enough for me to hear them from the house. They eventually calmed down and only gave it an occasional side glance and spit today.
BIG A** THANKS again to everyone who donated towards its purchase! (We humans need to study the manual before we can give you a full report).

Not so terrible at all, Diana! I love Jamie’s post breakfast accesory! Actually, I picked up a couple last week for them. pretty enough to make Jamie feel glamorous, strong enough to survive tug of war with Burrito!
The BAF arrived fast!
Linda C says
Oh! And Lulu’s 23!?
Wowza!
Diana says
She’s amazing! She even still goes out into her catio that J.B. built.
Barb says
My mom used to go to a local ice house and get a huge block of ice and put it infront of a fan. Evap cooling and it really helped. Could something like that work for the gang?
Diana says
Maybe! We have to send back the evaporative cooler, but the good news is they’ve already shipped a replacement. Fingers crossed that the replacement works like a charm!
Linda C says
Just as well that you had cooler days for the exchange period. What a bummer
Kathleen says
I love todays photos! Always something wondeful going on. at CSNW.
LouLou is beautiful. The Moo’s doing their version of a “Love Train” is pretty funny. Jamie and Rayne are accessorizing. (Jamie absolutely kills me with that expression!) Gordo is secure in his box and Willy B is marveling over the rich color of his potato. No bad photos here.
I never even thought about the reaction the chimps might have regarding the big new fan (and I should have considering my silly little dog is afraid of a standard box fan). I hope everyone will be comfortable with the fan and I hope it’s not too loud and scary. I also hope you can decipher the book of brains and get it working properly. 🙂 Better you than me–good luck!
Susan Carlon says
can they see colors? jusr wondering if willy b could see that his potato was purple…
Diana says
Yes! From what we know, their eyesight, including color vision, is about the same as ours.
John says
Jamie making a fashion statement and Rayne being covered oh so modestly.
Tobin says
“Terrible” photographs? Oh, I do so disagree! I love everything about today’s pictorals: Rayne’s beautiful face and fashionable accessorizing; Jamie and her cowgirlish scarf (so better to match her cowboy boots?); Meredith’s bold display of dissent to, once again, distinguish herself from the herd mentality; Gordito’s ecologically-prudent re-use of compressed paper products as comfortable and attractive household furniture; Willy B and his purple potato majesty; and, last though not least, the venerable LouLou’s very presence.
As for the black monolith of the cooling fan that appeared before Gordo and his sister Dora, I must ask: Upon seeing that monolith in their midst, did those two start acting out the prologue of “2001: A Space Odyssey”?
Mary Garripoli says
I thought of 2001 A Space Odyssey, as well!
Tobin says
Hahaha! Indeed, ever since I saw the photograph of Dora and Gordo confronting the presence of the Monolith before them, I have had the sounds of “Also sprach Zarasthruta” blasting at full volume on the turntable in my brain. For the next video which gets posted on the CSNW blog, I full expect to see either sibling tossing a bone-shank (vegan, of course) up into the air, spiraling in slow motion to Stanley Kubrick’s torturously exacting standards.
Diana says
Thank you, Tobin ?
Nancy Duryea says
I won’t repeat the comments of the others except to say the photos must have been taken by none other than Annie Leibovitz..they are gorgeous, every little detail is perfect. I love Jamie’s ‘bit of cover’ and the Willy B’s purple potato. Great job!!
Nancy Duryea says
guess that was Rayne with the bit of cover but Jamie looked adorable in her getup.
Mary Garripoli says
BTW, for “terrible” photos, these were wonderful.
Diana says
Thanks, Mary!
